Reasons Why This Recipe Is Amazing
Simplicity and sophistication. This recipe is amazing because it has no weird or complex ingredients or procedures, yet it achieves restaurant quality. It is hard to go wrong with flavourful sirloin, and the creamy mushroom sauce bring out its best. This recipe is perfect for beginner cooks, and theoretical professionals because there is even some room to make substitutions and even an opportunity to mess something up (but still taste good!). This recipe is also a great example of how good flavour can come from quality ingredients, and imagined thoughtfulness.

Sirloin Versatility
Sirloin is such a good option for this recipe because it is so versatile! The taste of sirloin is strong enough, juicy enough and robust enough to match the rich sauce, yet approachable enough for the home cook. Weather it’s weeknight dinner or a special occasion dinner, you’ll amaze with the meal without spending hours in the kitchen! Best served with a fresh garden salad, roasted potatoes or crusty bread to dip into or mop up all the sauce.
An Overview
A Culinary Symphony
Sirloin steak with creamy mushroom sauce is an aberration of the common while retaining elegance. The sirloin, perfectly cooked, was robustly hearty and juicy – so good on its own – made even better in a sauce. The cremini mushrooms, generous and bouncy, have an Earthy under-current and the thyme and dijon mustard have a muted elegance. Every forkful includes tender meat, silky sauce, and meaty mushroom succulence. The dish is a comforting warm feeling wrapped in rich luxury.

✅ 2 tbsp olive oil
✅ 1 tsp kosher salt
✅ 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
✅ 1 tsp garlic powder
For the Creamy Mushroom Sauce
✅ 4 sirloin steaks (6-8 oz each & about 1-inch thick)
✅ 2 tablespoons olive oil
✅ 1 teaspoon kosher salt
✅ 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
✅ 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Optional Garnishes
✅ Chopped fresh parsley
✅ Grated parmesan cheese
👨🍳 Directions :
For the Sirloin Steak
Make sure to pat the sirloin steaks dry with paper towels to achieve a nice sear. Season both sides of the steak with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Add some olive oil to a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the steak to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes a side for medium-rare, or until a nice golden crust has formed. An internal temperature of 135°F will indicate it’s done. Once you remove it from the skillet, plate it, and loosely cover it with foil to prevent the meat from drying as it rests.
For the Creamy Mushroom Sauce
Using the skillet you cooked the sirloin in, add the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add in the shallots and garlic, and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant. Add in the sliced mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes, until browned and the mushrooms have given up moisture. Pour in the beef broth and scrape any brown bits up from the bottom of the skillet into the sauce. Add the heavy cream, thyme, and Dijon mustard, and let simmer for about 5-7 minutes until the sauce has thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon. Season the sauce with salt and pepper, and Enjoy!
Combining and serving.
Put the sirloin steaks in the skillet and spoon on more of the creamy mushroom sauce. Let the steaks warm up in the sauce so they can mingle with the flavors, but do not let them cook too long or they could dry out and become tough with the residual heat. Plate the sirloins and pour the rich sauce over the sirloins. I then add a garnish of parsley or additional Parmesan cheese for nice flair! Serve up the sirloins immediately with some beautifully roasted vegetables or some fluffy mashed potatoes on the side.
💡 Tips for success:
Choosing the Sirloin.
When choosing sirloin steaks, you want to find ones that are uniformly marbled and bright red. I recommend choosing steaks that are around an inch thick. This way, you are giving the steak time to cook uniformly on the inside while developing a nice brown crust on the outside. Grass-fed sirloin generally has a richer flavor profile, providing even more flavor impact to the finished dish.
Searing.
It is equally important to get your skillet hot enough, as you want a well-caramelized crust. Heat up your skillet first, then do not overcrowd your skillet, so it stays hot while it cooks the steak. Do not flip the sirloin until it has taken on color.
Improving the Sauce
To add further depth to the sauce, you could experiment with mushroom types such as shiitake or oyster. Also, you can substitute some of the broth for a little dry white wine to further enhance the sauce. Fresh thyme is a must! You can’t substitute dried for fresh thyme, the fresh herbaceousness will add to the cream.
